49ers Gold Rush
In January 1848, James Wilson Marshall discovered gold while searching and constructing a saw mill along the American River. This discovery was reported in the San Francisco newspaper In March. Everybody was shocked about the gold rush which occurred in May 1848. A guy named Sam Brennan, a storekeeper in Sutter's creek,brought a bottle filled with gold dust around San Francisco shouting" Gold! Gold! Gold from American River!" The residents of the city now had proof of the discovery and the stampede to the gold fields was on. San Fransisco's harbor was soon filled with ships deserted by their crews. Workers abandoned Their jobs- Two newspapers were forced to close their doors as their staffs were struck by gold fever. the population of San Francisco was highly going up all because of the gold on the American river. Most people from other cities traveled all the way to California just to get gold. Some people became successful and some didn't quite.
The cause was a man was on the sutters creek of California San Francisco was looking for gold. Then one day after spending days looking for gold he manged to find some. As he found the gold, he keep shouting out Gold!. The word gold spreaded out quickly and got on the newspaper. That is how people had proof that there was gold in suters creek. The effect is the population of California was increasing year after year because everyone wanted gold from that creek to get wealthy. People around the world even traveled all the way to California to either be successful or not. All the mattered back then in 1848 was gold.
